If he didn't, someone pulled off the greatest hoax ever. Actually, there is more historical evidence for Jesus than for most figures of his time and before. The accounts of Christ were spread all over the civilization of that time. No one was able to effectively refute the accounts. Other writers of the time who did not see Christ as divine still mentioned him in an historical context. Those who would try to refute his existence seem to have a clearly subjective agenda. If one disclaims the existence of Christ then that person must reject even the most reliable of the historical accounts.
