How should Christians view the other religions?  Back
by Ronnie Worsham
12/08/2007

With a loving heart and spirit. With an attitude of grace and understanding. With humility and contriteness. At any point in any of our lives, we all most assuredly will be found believing at least some things that ultimately will be shown to be incorrect. Hence, ours should not be attitudes of harsh scorn at another who would be found believing something that we have come to know as patently untrue.

Jesus figuratively taught the lion to lay down with the lamb without exhibiting predatory behavior. He taught to turn swords into plows. Jesus said whoever lived by the sword would die by the sword. Jesus said God so LOVED the world. Jesus taught through his apostles that God did not want anyone to perish. Jesus said he had other sheep that were not yet in his fold that must be brought to him. Jesus said he had come to serve and to be a ransom for all and to seek and save the lost. Jesus said the clear identifying mark of his followers would be their love for one another.

Sadly, many Christians behave with the same ignorant fervor of those who have not come to know the Spirit of Christ. This misdirected zeal defies the true heart of Christ–the Prince of Peace, the Wonderful Counselor, and the Good Shepherd. It is just this Spirit of Christ that sets it as unique and far above all other views of God. This reality in no way denigrates the honest beliefs of those who haven't found Christ. On the contrary, it lifts them up as loved by God, called by God, and desired by God. "if you love me," Jesus said, "feed my sheep." Not condemn them and kill them. Jesus said, "I did not come to judge the world but to save the world." He said the word (truth) he spoke would be the judge in the end. In the meantime, each of us must judge ourselves fairly to be able to discern anything about another.
