India, Here We Come

Posted by Ronnie Worsham

It has be many years since I've traveled internationally. Tana, the children and I spent the better part of a summer in London, England back in 1987 and have since only traveled to Mexco on one occasion several years back. As I have gotten older, I seem to have gotten a little more cautious. I'm actually a little nervous about not knowing much about where I am going. We will be staying with Pastor Sugumar in Chinnai the first several days. I feel fairly acquainted with him, so that's okay. However, we will likely be hosted in Delhi by a family that we've never met. The father of a young man from India who participates in our Segue ministry has graciously invited us to stay with him while we are there.

After having traveled more this summer than I ever remember, I'm now feverishly planning the trip to India. Getting to go with my son, Casey, makes it even more special. I am looking forward to our visit and especially to getting to see the ministries Pastor Sugumar is involved with there. I have come to admire him greatly over the last couple of years, and it seems God has brought him to our church.

Sadly, my greatest challenge on this trip will be the heat and the mosquitoes. Heat has always hated me, and I sweat profusely just getting ready in the morning. And, mosquitoes have always loved me, picking me out of the crowd to bite me in wierd places. On vacation recently, one took the liberty to bite me on the forhead leaving a big, red, itchy knot. I've avoided West Nile Virus so far in the good ole USA; now I get to try to avoid malaria in India.

So many among the church here commented early in the year that they felt God was going to do something significant with Northeast Church this year. The church is growing and experiencing success in all of our ministries and that is certainly awesome within itself. However, my spirit within me tells me that this work in India is at least a part of what God is leading us to. But as always, to him be all glory. It's his deal--a God-deal--and I want whatever he wants. That's the core attitude of the entire Northeast Church. Period.

Casey and I are scheduled to leave on Wednesday afternoon, August 6. We will be in Chennai Thursday to Monday and will spend time with Pastor Sugumar visiting with the children, meeting the other pastors in his informal church network, and traveling to visit in some of the villages most affected by the tsunami a couple of years back. We are taking some gifts from the Northeast Church to be distributed while we are there.

Monday to Wednesday of the next week will be spent in Delhi. On Tuesday, we will be meeting with the staff of HOPE International in Delhi and then visiting some of their projects there. Wednesday we plan to visit the Taj Mahal and do some other sight-seeing, before boarding a plane at 2:30 a.m. on Thursday for our return trip home.

Please keep us in your prayers. I will give updates as often as possible.

Praying for you both as we pray for the work in India and the plans God has for NEC and the ministers there. Thank you for your hearts to serve in the mighty work God is doing. Praying that your eyes are opened to exactly what God would have us all to do. Love to you both. Gilda

Hola!

Thank you so much for including us in this GOD adventure. You truly have a gift of writing. Have Casey try sugar-water for sunblock and I bet you won't have one mosquito bite! Just kidding : )

We're praying for you two, the India ministry, and your families here in the States.

God bless you each and every day.
